Have You Ever Seen a Deck Generate Infinite Mana with Just Two Cards on the Battlefield?

If the answer is no, sit back and get comfortable. If the answer is yes, you may have already run into this pair without knowing exactly why it worked. Let's set the record straight once and for all.

The Engine: What Each Piece Does

Bloom Tender is an Elf Druid creature that, when tapped for mana, produces one mana for each color among the permanents you control. If you have a green/blue commander on the battlefield, she already produces two mana: one green and one blue.

Freed from the Real is an Aura that attaches to a creature. It lets you pay one blue mana to untap the enchanted creature.

You can already see where this is going.

The Loop, Step by Step

Imagine you have both cards in play, with Freed from the Real attached to Bloom Tender, and at least two colors among your permanents (your two-color commander counts just fine):

  1. Tap Bloom Tender → produces 2+ mana (at least one green and one blue).
  2. Spend one blue mana to activate Freed from the RealBloom Tender untaps.
  3. Repeat from step 1.

Each cycle leaves you with one net mana ahead. If you have three colors among your permanents, you produce 3 mana, spend 1, and gain 2 every iteration. The result is infinite mana of whatever color (or colors) Bloom Tender generates.

Think of a bucket that fills and empties, but every time you pour out one cup, two remain inside — sooner or later, it overflows.

Here's where things get practical. Bloom Tender is green, Freed from the Real is blue: the combined color identity is green/blue (Simic). This means you can slot the combo into any deck that contains at least these two colors.

Five commanders that house it perfectly:

  • Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait — pure green/blue, loves mana engines to play extra lands each turn and draw like crazy.
  • Zimone and Dina — green/blue/black, Zimone produces variable mana that scales beautifully with Bloom Tender when you have more colors on the battlefield.
  • Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy — green/blue, doubles the mana from non-lands: with him, Bloom Tender already produces 4 mana with two colors, making the loop take off even faster.
  • Kenrith, the Returned King — five colors, Bloom Tender will produce mana of every color, making the infinite mana immediately spendable to activate Kenrith repeatedly.
  • Riku of Two Reflections — green/blue/red, three colors guaranteed by the commander himself, combo goes online the turn both cards hit the battlefield.

How to Protect It and How to Play It

The main weakness of the loop is its reliance on Freed from the Real, an Aura: removing the creature in response to the first tap sends it to the graveyard before you've accomplished anything useful.

A few practical countermeasures:

With infinite mana in hand, the most common payoffs are repeated activations of your commander, drawing your entire deck with Blue Sun's Zenith, or closing out the game with Walking Ballista for infinite damage.

Budget vs. Premium: What You're Really Spending

The good news is that the combo alone costs €16.83Bloom Tender (€11.77) and Freed from the Real (€5.06). It's one of the most affordable infinite loops in the format for this level of power.

The budget version makes do with inexpensive protection (Greaves, Boots) and basic tutors.

The premium version adds efficient tutors like Finale of Devastation or Mystical Tutor, high-quality counterspells, and redundant win conditions — but those are costs for the supporting cast, not the heart of the combo.

Your Key Takeaway

Bloom Tender plus Freed from the Real is a sub-twenty-euro investment that holds its own at Bracket 3 without breaking a sweat and scales up into highly competitive builds. The loop is simple to explain, impossible to ignore, and slots into any Simic or multicolor shell without upending your deck's structure.

If you're looking for your first "serious" combo engine, you'd be hard-pressed to find anything better at this price point.
