EDH Meta Pulse: Marvel Dominates the Tables, Prices on Fire

Edgar Markov commands the build rankings, but it's the Marvel set that's sending prices through the roof: +210% on Black Widow in just a few days.

The pulse of the format: an explosive week between old kings and new heroes

Edgar Markov holds the throne. Twenty-two decks built in a single week — vampires just won't quit, they never do. But the real noise this week comes from the Marvel set, which is rewriting prices in real time and pushing new names to the top of the charts.

Who's getting built right now

Edgar Markov is the most-built commander with 22 decks — a clear gap over everyone else. The recipe is well known: vampire tokens, tribal synergies, and it wins on its own if left unanswered for the first three turns.

Right behind it, the new arrival Doctor Doom, King of Latveria sits at 10. The Marvel set is bringing a wave of new players to the format — and Doom is the face of the EDH villain of the moment.

The Ur-Dragon and Krenko, Mob Boss are holding steady at 9 decks each: two pillars of the format, always present, never out of style. Dragon tribal and goblin aggro remain classic entry points for newcomers to Commander.

Further down: Cloud, Ex-SOLDIER and Teval, the Balanced Scale at 8 decks, Tony Stark // The Invincible Iron Man and Hearthhull, the Worldseed at 7. The crossover between alternate universes and new mechanics is clearly the driving force behind this week's builds.

Prices on fire: what's going on

Numbers that'll make your head spin. Three cards above +150% in just a few days — and all of them belonging to the same Marvel ecosystem.

Black Widow, Agile Avenger leads the pack: from €1.49 to €4.63, a +210.7% jump. A legendary Hero creature with the Spy subtype — exactly the kind of keyword that creates instant synergy in tribal decks and builds led by Doctor Doom, King of Latveria or Tony Stark // The Invincible Iron Man. Whenever a set introduces a new tribe or subtype, creatures carrying that tag spike before the market has time to settle.

Green Goblin, Nemesis follows close behind: from €1.63 to €4.90, +200.6%. Goblin and Villain in a single package — the "Villain" type is evidently already in high demand, likely due to synergies with set mechanics we haven't fully explored yet. Worth watching in a Krenko, Mob Boss deck with a villain splash.

Seeker of Skybreak is the non-Marvel surprise of the list: from €1.80 to €4.87, +170.6%. It's an Elf that unlocks a second action on a creature — an ability that pairs beautifully with commanders that have powerful tap abilities. It's probably finding a home in Teval, the Balanced Scale builds or in decks with commanders looking to activate twice per turn.

Loki, God of Mischief climbs from €1.10 to €2.85, +159.1%. God, Sorcerer, Villain: three types on one card. That kind of multiple identity carries direct deckbuilding value in decks leaning on subtype synergies. Demand is rising, likely from Doctor Doom shells.

The Fantasticar is the strongest signal in absolute terms: from €11.35 to €24.09, +112.2%. A legendary Vehicle in a format that loves artifacts. A price jump like this on a card already above €10 is significant — whoever wanted it is paying up now, no matter the cost.

Grafted Skullcap rounds out the list at +110.1%, from €1.38 to €2.90. An artifact that forces discard and draw — a mechanic that works with reanimator strategies, Madness, and decks looking to fill the graveyard quickly. This rise smells like a rediscovery.

The falls: watch these names

Near-total collapse for four cards. Photon, Mighty Marvel, Captain Marvel, Apex Avenger, The Vision, and Vision Quest have all plummeted to €0.02 — starting from values between €3.63 and €5.99. A drop of this magnitude, hitting multiple cards from the same set simultaneously, suggests either a massive reprint, an alternate/foil version cannibalizing the value of the regular copies, or a quick market correction from an oversupply of copies. If you already have them in your deck, there's nothing to do — their functional value remains intact. If you wanted to pick them up, the window is wide open.

What to keep an eye on right now

If you've got a Marvel-adjacent deck in the works — Doom, Iron Man, or any build touching the Hero and Villain types — move now on the pieces that haven't yet priced in their peak. Seeker of Skybreak is the most interesting non-Marvel pickup of the week: high utility, still reasonably priced even after the climb. The four cards in free fall are now essentially free to grab: pick them up if you've had your eye on them in the past. And keep watching Teval, the Balanced Scale — eight decks built around a brand-new commander is a signal that the community is still exploring its full potential.
